[VOIPSEC] news: India?s Intelligence Bureau calls for block of VoIP

Sounds like reactionary overkill to me - perhaps politically or business
motivated (prevent new competition?)
Can you ever really attain 100% certainty where any ip based message or
communication is coming from in a globally connected increasingly mobile
world? Anonymizers, proxies, botnets, hijacks and hacks will all
eventually make their way to targeting the VoIP enabled network, its
applications and users.
The challenge (before everyone accepts having a 'magicJack' like device
on their home computer as the accepted norm for VoIP communication - not
to 'dis' magicJack in anyway) is to provide cost effective defenses in
software and in delivery. Unfortunately if VoIP security follows current
app and network security practices it will only be as a reactionary
response to an existing threat.

Wow - that could have an immediate and unexpected impact on many call
center services that simply can't operate profitably without VoIP.
Something tells me that the threat of massive layoffs in that sector
will lead to a phased-in compromise instead.

Or merely to an exception for big call centers which agree to install
special monitoring.
