Well of course it's possible, you can encode binary as an alternating
tone or even a series of beeps or clicks... so long as you have timing
information (8B10 or manchester encoding or the like) then you can
recover the bit stream fairly reliably.
Of course, if you want any kind of decent transfer rate, then things get
a bit more complex...
You could also tunnel data in SIP headers too, I expect.
