Best Practices team,

<random diversion>

A fun little diversion while we wait
another day to close on the document structure....

Any folks out there good at making little
"badge" type of graphics for websites like blogs and such?

As I wrote up this announcement on the
VOIPSA blog about the last call for a document structure:

http://voipsa.org/blog/2007/01/17/voipsa-best-practices-last-call-for-comment-on-document-structure/

it occurred to me that it really needed
a graphic next to it just to make the page look more interesting. I
was tempted to grab the VOIPSA logo from the main VOIPSA web page at:

http://www.voipsa.org/images/voiplogo_home.gif

but being just the VOIPSA logo alone,
it would look kind of silly right now on the main VOIPSA blog page where
the right sidebar has this small VOIPSA logo there:

http://www.voipsa.org/images/voipsa_small.gif

So... it occurred to the PR/marketing
side of my brain... we ought to have a "VOIPSA Best Practices"
graphic that we could:

1. Put it on the Best Practices project
page at http://www.voipsa.org/images/voipsa_small.gif and also in the wiki
2. Use it in VoIPSA blog postings and
other things like Blue Box posting that talk about best practices.

By virtue of doing that, we'd also make
available a graphic that other bloggers and news sites could use to display
along with any postings or articles they do about the Best Practices project.
As a blogger looking for those type of graphics when I'm writing
posts, I know other bloggers would use it - and undoubtedly so would various
news sites. They have the same idea - they don't want pure text-only
pages if they can avoid it.

Now, if left to my own non-graphically-inclined
devices, I'll play with Paint or Powerpoint and make a square navy-blue
box, put the VOIPSA logo at the top and "Best Practices" at the
bottom... and that works... but I have to imagine there's someone out on
this list with a more creative streak who could do something a bit more
artistic or classier.

So here's what I'm thinking:
- A square graphic, no bigger
than 150x150 pixels.
- The VOIPSA logo somewhere in
there with the navy-ish blue background that we use (see links above).
For branding purposes, the logo should probably be unmodified.
- The words "Best Practices"
or "Best Practices Project" somewhere in there
- You want it to be simple enough
to be something people can see and easily interpret

In thinking about, in the ideal world
the graphic could have the words "Best Practices" easily replaced
with "Threat Taxonomy" if we decided to do a similar graphic
for the Threat Taxonomy project.

Ideally, the graphic might also be able
to be morphed into a smaller badge (maybe rectangular) that could say something
like "Support VOIPSA Best Practices" or something. (You
know, something like the kinds of things offered by Spread Firefox: http://www.spreadfirefox.com/?q=affiliates/homepage
only undoubtedly of interest to a much smaller subset of sites, eh?)

Anyway... if anyone wants to indulge
their creative side and come up with something for consideration, please
send it along (preferably directly to me vs to the list). If we get
a couple of ideas we'll post them to the blog for consideration. If
we don't, well, maybe some morning when the cats wake me up way too early
I'll fire up Paint. :-)

</random diversion>

We now return you to your consideration
of document structure...
